About Us
Sand Creek Rescue was founded in 2014, but we started rescuing horses many years before that. I had horses; Showed, Ran Barrels, Team Penning, Endurance and Competitive Trail, many years ago as a teenager. I sold my horses at 18 and started my career. My husband is an instrumental part of the farm, but grew up a city boy in Chicago. He grew up in a rough neighborhood, but his love for basketball saved him. He played basketball in college and professionally in Argentina. He had never even been around a horse until he met me. As an adult it was the one thing missing in my life. I had a great career, loving husband, and just a great life, but I longed to have horses again. I bought my first Arabian in years in 2005. After that we took in a couple horses in need and were boarding 5 horses, at which point we decided we needed our own farm. We moved to Rosamond in 2010. After that we continued to take in horses in need and are now up to 20 horses on the farm. We love all of our kids. Weather they are here a couple months or years, there is a special place in our heart for all of them. My husband has been bitten by the bug. While he loved my Arabs, one night he watched the Disney film, Secretariat, it would all change for him after that. He not only became a fan, it became part of him, it was in his blood. SCR would be formed. While we are not a breed specific rescue, we do have a soft spot for Thoroughbreds. We are fans of racing and while there is much controversy regarding the sport, please recognize it is the only registry that tracks it's horses through the lip tattoo. We support responsible breeders and owners. We will continue to support the retirement of Thoroughbred's off the track and in their years after.
In 2016 after moving the rescue to Mojave, we have experienced a great deal of need in our own backyard; but not with horses, it's dogs needing our help in Mojave. Stray dogs, uninformed owners, and owners in financial difficulty. We have already taken in several and will be adding pictures of dogs for adoption in the very near future. Our mission to rescue horses is the same, we will just be expanding to offer hope to dogs and owners in need!
